Crème URLs
From version 1.7, you can start Crème with URLs that directly open various parts of the app. This lets you connect Crème with providers like Boxcar. Since only the full version of Crème can load custom pages, this functionality is not available in Crème Light. For all of these URLs, Crème will simply open the relevant page. If the corresponding page is not already in your Crème home view, it is...

Crème 1.7 live-changelog
Let’s start work on the new version. FEATURE: Crème URLs. Among other things, this enables integration with Boxcar and other providers. (Full version only, not available in Light.) Why Crème doesn’t show pictures of retweeted users
Other Twitter apps and twitter.com show you pictures of users whom others have retweeted inline. Thus, you are seeing random people in your timeline simply because they got retweeted by someone you follow. It’s a conscious design decision in Crème not to do that. We only show the people you follow. If they retweeted someone, you see a simple “RT: something something” notice. If you...

Crème 1.5 is nearing completion and will hit App Store some time in the next few weeks. Cloud Sync will be an important feature in this version. In short, Crème will sync its configuration to the cloud, so that if you happen to run Crème on multiple devices, they stay in sync. Please read this information to understand what Cloud Sync means for your privacy and security. Why this is necessary ...

Crème and Crème Light 1.4 available in App Store
Crème and Crème Light version 1.4 are now available in App Store. The biggest visible change is a new setup interface. There is no more app settings in the iPhone Settings section, and there is no more “pinch to zoom” which, frankly, never worked well. Instead, you have a “Turn me” system to access setup. Anywhere in Crème, just put two fingers on the screen and twist to...

Chasing pixels with a custom iPhone title view
Can you spot the difference between these two layouts? No? OK, let me zoom in to 200% and go to the area I’m talking about. See it now? Nothing? Or yes? OK, let me make it really obvious. In the first instance, the text is positioned in a way that does not feel aligned well with the button on the left. You can see that between the top of the 1st line text ascenders...

Designing an improved embedded browser
Embedded browsing is an important part of Crème experience. People often post links to Twitter, and you want to see the pages behind the links right then and there. So, in Crème and in many other apps, you can tap on a link and a nice browser window opens, showing you the web page. As we continue working on Crème, it makes sense to go back and revisit parts of the interface and scrutinize each...

The future of Crème, in light of Twitter buying...
Today, Twitter announced that they are buying Tweetie and making it the official client for iPhone. What does this mean for Crème? Many other app makers are probably worried, especially if their livelihood depends on it. Crème is different: we have always said that it is an off-hours project, meaning that we are not concerned about commercial success in the short term. It would of course be nice...

Free Crème Light released earlier this week
Maybe you noticed that free Crème Light was released earlier this week. Get it here. Crème Light looks and works very much like the full version of Crème, and will follow the same release schedule. Some things that are missing from the Light version are multiple accounts, adding and rearranging pages, and Direct Messages. If you wish to get these features, there’s an easy way to buy...

Conversations, replies, and context
Ryan asks: The problem with twitter replies is that they aren’t contextual. Anyone know how to ‘thread’ tweets? Actually, there is a way in Twitter to weave replies into threads, which you may or may not have noticed. When you post a tweet on Twitter.com or many apps including Crème, and it is a reply to another tweet, the site or app quietly captures this information in the tweet...

Lists in Crème
The next version of Crème will have lists. You will add them with the “Add Page” function similarly to how you add everything else, and reading also works the same way. Here is what it will be like. We believe that this is truly among the best Twitter list reading experiences on iPhone, combined with Crème’s powerful read/unread handling and touch-based navigation. Just...

Why Crème doesn't have image uploading today
Crème does currently not have image posting/upload feature. You cannot post images to Twitter with Crème today. Several of you have asked for it, so we wanted to explain why we didn’t add it in the first version, and when we will add it. We chose not to add the image feature in Crème because it is not possible today to have a good, seamless, stable user experience around invisibly...

Direct Messages and Crème
The first version of Crème does not support Direct Messages. Here’s why we chose not to include this feature initially. Crème thinks of Twitter as a public channel. Everything that happens there is public. This is true for most of the Twitter ecology, but there are two exceptions: protected users (which work mostly fine in Crème) and DM. We make things very clear by only having the public...

Internet, meet Crème.
Whew. The app is not live yet, it’s in App Store review as of March 3. (We actually got a reject and had to replace an icon, which is a good thing for User Experience.) Follow other Crème news at @cremeapp, and of course, cremeapp.com. This blog will be a place for random commentary, technical and design insights, and general nerdery. Then again, maybe this will be the only post. Who knows....
