The future of Crème, in light of Twitter buying Tweetie

Today, Twitter announced that they are buying Tweetie and making it the official client for iPhone. What does this mean for Crème?

Many other app makers are probably worried, especially if their livelihood depends on it. Crème is different: we have always said that it is an off-hours project, meaning that we are not concerned about commercial success in the short term. It would of course be nice if it sold well, but it is not a factor in deciding whether we will continue to support and maintain it. Many great products, including Twitter itself, have born out of this off-hours tinkering.

We started Crème because we thought that we could do some things better than the Twitter website, Tweetie and other apps. Twitter buying Tweetie does not suddenly make the product 20 times better. There continues to be unexplored novel territory in the design and interaction space, which is where our interest lies.

We are encouraged by the great feedback we have got to Crème so far. We have lots of ideas to work on, and we will continue to maintain and evolve Crème as time and energy permits. Your input and comments are always welcome and as you have seen, help us build a good experience.
