Crème and Crème Light 1.4 available in App Store

Crème and Crème Light version 1.4 are now available in App Store.

The biggest visible change is a new setup interface. There is no more app settings in the iPhone Settings section, and there is no more “pinch to zoom” which, frankly, never worked well. Instead, you have a “Turn me” system to access setup. Anywhere in Crème, just put two fingers on the screen and twist to access the setup interface. (This is somewhat experimental, so let us know how it feels.)

In conjunction with that, the page layout engine and setup is now much more powerful. You can choose from among many more picture and text sizes, and you can select whether you want the picture on top or on the side. Just go to the “Page Layout” section of Setup and play with the knobs. Or, hit “Surprise Me” to get a random layout.

The new setup let us make the interface much more configurable. In general, we try to make decisions for you, but some areas of the app are such that different people like to use them differently. For example, I never use “Reply by Direct Message”, “Open in Safari” and “Email Tweet,” but others find them indispensible. Rather than try to cram everything in the Tweet actions menu (the thing that appears when you tap the top right button when looking at a tweet), you can now turn the different actions on and off in Setup.

Another important change is the inline browser, which is much more streamlined and has less interface and more content visible. Read about how we eliminated most of the functions and how we chased the pixels for good-looking titles.

Here is the full change log:

  • FEATURE: send tweet by email.
  • FEATURE: configurable tweet actions. Turn them on and off as you like. For example, if you never reply with Direct Messages or you never favorite or retweet, you can turn these off.
  • FEATURE: a new configuration interface. New ways to change text and picture sizes in lists that actually work now. Just put two fingers on the screen to get there.
  • CHANGE: improved browser without bottom toolbar, instead pushing items to navigation stack so you can use the same Back button.
  • CHANGE: the “Conversation” button in a single tweet view shows the conversation depth if all the messages in the conversation are available.
  • CHANGE: default person image is now lighter and also shown in “one tweet” and “one person” views until the real image is downloaded.
  • BUGFIX: improved offline behavior: more meaningful “no internet” notifications when trying to refresh without connection
  • BUGFIX: you can now open tweets from search results even when offline e.g for bookmarking. Works great to download everything before you enter the subway.
  • BUGFIX: improved page content refresh behavior: now properly maintains scroll position when refreshing page content.
  • BUGFIX: better #hashtag matching in tweet contents, does not mess up URL-s with #pageAnchors any more.
  • BUGFIX: when doing “Quote Tweet”, no longer attach original tweet ID as in_reply_to metadata. This prevented people from seeing some quoted tweets if they did not follow the user who was being replied to.
  • BUGFIX: opening the first tweet after launching the app always took too long. Fixed, now faster.
  • BUGFIX: conversations work as expected now, always downloading the full thread. This was sometimes broken before.
  • BUGFIX: no longer black bar in top of window when going back from one tweet view to main views.

There is also a known issue: in previous versions, you could sometimes get to a place where you have double navigation bars on top of the screen, with two “Home” buttons, two titles and such, and the interface looks broken. This no longer happens with 1.4, but it is still possible to get to a place where the pages are somewhat confused and instead of Crème view that should always be the first, you see something else. Please let us know if it happens and you can reproduce it.
